Tesla’s Self-Driving Tech – “Car Business” on the Job

Hello, it’s Bob Aldons, CEO of Car Business. I continue to be enthralled with the ruminations that come from Tesla and particularly from the Tesla mouth Elon Musk.

There’s no doubt that Elon is a rich dude – heck, he had enough to launch Tesla and other enterprises, or is most of that money coming from early investors, who now have to go along with what Elon is spruiking. Tesla delivered only 14,402 vehicles in the June quarter and lost only $293 million and suggests that it’s confident that it will deliver 25,000 vehicles per quarter for the second half of the year. If you remove the hype, the forthcoming new models and any other stuff that Elon spruiks, and as a new investor, would you really put any of your hard earned into this company?

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is setting high expectations for the company’s future technologies.

Despite all the negative press that has emerged on Tesla’s Autopilot feature in the past couple of months, the company stands firm that self-driving cars are significantly safer than human drivers. “What we’ve got will blow people’s minds, it blows my mind… it’ll come sooner than people think,” Musk said during a conference call.

The big question now is how soon could the technology come? Now that the first fatality has occurred with Autopilot active, it becomes a concern on how quickly federal regulators, at least in the U.S., will establish clear guidelines and regulations for self-driving cars. Musk has always been well aware of that fact, saying that self-driving cars will be ready long before regulators approve them for use.

An announcement on when we can expect to see the first fully autonomous Tesla is expected to come before the end of the year, as Tesla has promised that it will host another big event “maybe towards the end of the year,” where Musk will talk more about self-driving cars and likely reveal the production TeslaModel 3.

Along with announcing its earnings report, Tesla also said that it plans to add a new retail store every four days, on average, during the next year. The company will focus on markets such as Taipei, Seoul and Mexico City, as well as its mature markets like California in the U.S.
