Car Dealer Journey – Part 1 by Bob Aldons of Car Business
Hello again. Bob from Car Business here, with advice on cars and everything automotive. This series of articles deals with various car dealer locations and where you can find them.
Car Business is a multi-dimensional automotive company that aims to help you to buy your new car for a better price than you can do on your own at a car dealer. Based on the Redcliffe Peninsula about 15 minutes from Brisbane Airport and 30 minutes from the Brisbane CBD, Car Business is located in an area that allows us to pick and choose from Brisbane’s finest new cars for sale. The ‘go to’ Brisbane car buying agents, Car Business, is so much better than a car broker – first and foremost, Car Business is an experienced Car Buyer’s Advocacy service. Our experienced staff will stand alongside you, and act on your behalf to help you buy your new car at a better price than you can directly through new car dealers.
“The journey to buying a new car in the Brisbane area is becoming a real headache for most consumer’s” said car industry expert and car dealer Bob Aldons.
“I’ve been in the car business for nearly 40 years and during that time I’ve seen the level of service gradually fall from long-term relationships and continued repeat and referral business to one where arguably the consumer just doesn’t trust people within the car dealerships. And that’s a very sad circumstance”
So enter the rise and rise of the car buyer’s agent, car advocate or in common parlance the Car Broker. “After selling down my franchises in 2015, I’ve taken great pleasure in establishing Car Business as the newest broker/advocacy business in Queensland with a national reach and potential. We negotiate with a panel of car dealer to achieve a better price”
Over a series of articles, I want to take you on a journey from the Brisbane CBD north to Redcliffe, and Caboolture, East to the southern Moreton bay suburbs, west to Toowoomba, and south through Springwood and Daisy Hill to the Gold Coast. I’ll outline a large number of car dealerships and groups, a few points of interest along the way and help guide you with some tips to buying your next new car better.
The Queen Street Mall is the starting point for Car Dealer business Journeys
As a starting point for all directions, we’ll use a subjective centre of Brisbane – namely the Queen Street Mall. So let’s buckle up and hit the road.
It’s a fair way (or at least a couple of well hit drivers) before we hit our first car dealer strip and that’s predominately owned by publically listed company AP Eagers. Austral Volvo, Austral Jaguar Land Rover are in Wickham Street Fortitude Valley (near Brunswick Street) followed closely by Mercedes Benz of Brisbane and Brisbane BMW. In Anne Street, (parallel to Wickham Street) with close proximity to these German brands are the showrooms of Infiniti, Lexus and Italian Super Car brand Lamborghini.
Further down Wickham Street, travelling east, is the EuroMarque Group – Audi, Maserati, Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Bentley. Pretty pricey propositions these elite brands, but if you’ve got it, then perhaps you’ll stop by for a browse around. A careful car buyer will always want to check the reputation of a car dealer that they’re intending to do business with. My advice is to Google the name of the dealer – let’s say EuroMarque – and read the reviews from fellow buyers and importantly service customers. A score of four or five stars gives you comfort to deal with a car dealer, whereas any score under 4 should warn you to dig a little bit deeper. Didn’t someone famous say – Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten?
Not much further east along Wickham Street, we change names to Breakfast Creek Road at Newstead. First brand along this thoroughfare is my favourite –Brisbane Ferrari. A franchise now owned by the Sime Derby Group, who also own Brisbane BMW, Ferrari is undoubtedly the pinnacle of motoring in Queensland. I’ve owned a couple over the years and still have my eye out for something older, but just as special.
We’re entering the vicinity of the Breakfast Creek Hotel – famous for its hearty Australian beef and world famous beer off the wood. If you need a break in your car buying journey, visit the Brekky Creek and enjoy the hospitality. This area also serves Ascot, Clayfield, Hamilton and the industrial area of Eagle Farm and the Brisbane Airport precinct
Before arriving at the Brekky Creek you’ll pass the epicentre of the AP Eagers Group – Austral Volkswagen, Austral Honda, Austral Subaru, Metro Ford, and Eagers Mazda. The first motor group to go public, AP Eagers (ASX: APE) has been in the auto business for over 100 years and is one of the companies that Car Business utilizes for pricing through our Car Broker business. Adjacent to the AP dealerships, is Albion Chrysler Jeep Dodge and Porsche Centre Brisbane.
After you’re finished with a great meal and a cold cleansing ale (not too many) at The Creek, we’ll take a side step to Lutwyche Road Windsor and areas surrounding. On the way there, travelling through Bowen Hills, we’ll find a number of smaller car dealer locations – Brisbane City Mitsubishi, Skoda, Citroen and Peugeot. In close proximity to these businesses is a part of the largest Toyota dealer in Australia, Sci Fleet Toyota Albion. At the end of Breakfast Creek road is one of Australians longest serving Chrysler Dealers, Albion Chrysler Jeep Dodge, owned by Bob Muller.
Continuing onto Lutwyche Road Windsor, Metro Nissan , Metro Renault, Metro Hyundai and Norris MG, all owned by Paul Norris of the Norris Motor Group. In close proximity, in Newmarket Road Windsor is Eagers Holden the foundation dealership of AP Eagers. Kedron and Chermside are next along the route passing another major car shopping strip. The first dealership on busy Gympie Road is another from the Norris group – Norris Volkswagen. In short order we see Sci Fleet Toyota Kedron, Eagers Kia and Eagers Subaru, and Byrne Ford.
Another side trip down Hamilton Road at Chermside takes us to the neighbouring suburbs of Nundah – the spiritual home of Paul Norris and the Norris Motor Group. As a Car dealer since the early 1980’s and principally located on Sandgate Road at Nundah, the Norris group services Nundah, Toombul, Clayfield and Northgate areas, brands such as Mitsubishi, Hyundai, Honda, Suzuki, Isuzu Ute and MG are located here.
Back we go to Gympie Road at Chermside and travelling north, we motor into Aspley, the heartland of the Zupps Group of dealerships, now owned by the second listed car brand in Australia, Automotive Holdings Group (ASX:AHG). This Western Australian based behemoth is the largest of the 2 publically listed car companies in Australia. The Zupps Group not only services Aspley, but the surrounding areas of Bridgeman Downs, Albany Creek, and Bald Hills. Zupps has a diverse franchise portfolio with Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Hyundai, Holden, HSV. Directly across Gympie Road Grand Prix Mazda at Aspley is one of Australia’s largest and most successful Mazda dealerships – Grand Prix Mazda owned and operated by Joe Camilleri and his 3 sons.
Every article I write is targeted at providing as much information for car owners and prospective car buyers.
Above anything else, Car Business is a company that provides automotive advice for car owners who don’t have access to experts. Am I an expert? I’ve been in the car business for over 38 years, and while there are areas where I’ll reach out to friends and acquaintances for advice, I’ve got a pretty good grasp of most aspects of the business. I’ve been called a lot of things in my time – Car Doctor, Car Professor or The Car Guy, but whenever someone wants some sensible advice, they call me.
I don’t charge for advice, whether it’s on the phone, via email or face to face. I’m happy to provide my expertise whenever I can. So if you want to chat to The Car Guru, get in touch.
I have access to good quality cars – you can see them on Cars Guide. Just click here [Cars Guide] to view our current stock of vehicles.
Other parts of my business that you may find the need to use from time to time are:
www.genuinespares.com.au. This is an online spare parts store for Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Volkswagen and Isuzu Ute. I’ve got thousands of mechanical and panel parts plus Mopar (Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Alfa) T-Shirts, tyres, and alloy wheels as well. If you’re looking for a hard to get replacement part for any of these brands, or you just want to get a better price than retail on any car brand, let me know. And you won’t pay inflated replacement parts prices either. I’ve priced my stock at a discounted value to compete with the USA and Europe spare parts prices but with local delivery charges
We’re local agents for Williams Paint and Interior Protection as well as AutoGard and CleanGard car products and SunX window tinting. The Same story applies. This is an area that car dealers want to make an amazing amount of profit – up to 100% in some cases. Don’t get ripped off by the franchise car dealers – check us out for a local competitive price on car protection products, window tinting, and engine products.
I’m pleased to advise that in 2015 I was awarded the franchise for 1800Approved Finance. As a local finance company, we’re able to provide a better level of service than the local car dealers as well as pretty competitive rates. SO before you sign on the dotted line, let us compare rates on finance and insurance for you – no obligation. If you’re looking for finance for a new or used car, or any other worthwhile purpose, our company can assist – even if you’ve had some troubling financial issues.
BLOG – I write a new Blog for my website a couple of times a week. If you’d like to read some of the stories I’ve written just click here.
